introduction

Many of you know how the Todd Family feels about journeys. We try to keep an eternal destination always in view, while focusing on finding joy in the way we choose to get there. We are so grateful for the knowledge we have about where we want to ultimately be... in the presence of a loving Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, who made it possible for us to achieve that destination. We have been sent to this earth to see if we can reach our potential, becoming all that Heavenly Father wants us to be. Sometimes the journey back to our Heavenly home takes us through wide, gentle paths and sometimes the road is treacherous and unknown. Regardless, we feel that with every step we take, we should be looking for the beauty around us... learning from our fellow sojourners and relying on the maps that were provided to us to get through. Sometimes it is easy to happily skip along, but often we struggle, wondering if we will make it, and recognizing in the end that we can do hard things that we would have not previously thought possible. These are often the stretches of road that bring the most joy... the difficult ones. We have recently found ourselves on “a road less traveled” and, since we can’t turn around, we have decided to find joy in the opportunity to go there... to become better for having trod this new path. We hope that none of you will have to take this route, and can instead experience the vistas through us as you follow this blog. Here we go... Remember to enjoy the journey!

Moving Right Along

Sorry I haven't written recently.  You are nice to check in!:)  In response to emailed questions, Derek is doing great.  He feels better than he has for many months.  He has been doing yard work and packing, and taking daily walks with each of his kids.  He can eat and isn't as tired as he has been since the surgery.  It has been wonderful, although it makes it all the weirder to think about him having a life-threatening illness!:)  We are just so grateful for all the prayers that are helping him to function so well through all of this.  It is truly miraculous.

Tomorrow we will go back for Chemo Treatment #2.  They will add the Avastin... supposedly more aggressive.  It will be interesting to see if the after-effects are any different than last time. We're assuming it will be a little harder to bounce back from each treatment, but he did really well with the first one.  Treatment #3 is already scheduled to take place in American Fork, Utah in 3 weeks!

Speaking of the move, we've still been working on finding housing for our family in Lehi, Utah.  It has been surprisingly difficult and with less than two weeks until our estimated time of departure, we still have not found a place to live.  We think we have found someone that will do a short-term lease, and we're trying to get financing in order to purchase a home in a couple of months, but nothing has been firmed up yet.  We're sure it will work out.  Heavenly Father would not have brought us this far just to leave us homeless!

Tanner will be having his Eagle Court of Honor before we leave here, so we're working on pulling that together, and the kids are all wrapping up their third term classes and finishing up their state testing.  The boys are in the middle of track season, and we're busily packing and keeping the house clean for the potential buyer showings.  We have had one offer so far, but it was very low and we decided to hold out for the price we previously felt good about.  Hopefully we don't regret that later!!:)  We feel good about all that is coming together and trust that even if we are in a small apartment for a bit, the right housing will work out eventually.  We're excited about the next adventure!

    Thanks for the update. I think about you all the time wondering what is going on with you. But I also knew that if there was something going on that you would write about it.

    Good luck on the chemo today Derek. You could use my 11 year old's faith. He told Alex, "You don't have to pray for mom's friend anymore, he is better now." I guess in Jaxon's mind, if you pray for someone long enough, he must be better.
