introduction

Many of you know how the Todd Family feels about journeys. We try to keep an eternal destination always in view, while focusing on finding joy in the way we choose to get there. We are so grateful for the knowledge we have about where we want to ultimately be... in the presence of a loving Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, who made it possible for us to achieve that destination. We have been sent to this earth to see if we can reach our potential, becoming all that Heavenly Father wants us to be. Sometimes the journey back to our Heavenly home takes us through wide, gentle paths and sometimes the road is treacherous and unknown. Regardless, we feel that with every step we take, we should be looking for the beauty around us... learning from our fellow sojourners and relying on the maps that were provided to us to get through. Sometimes it is easy to happily skip along, but often we struggle, wondering if we will make it, and recognizing in the end that we can do hard things that we would have not previously thought possible. These are often the stretches of road that bring the most joy... the difficult ones. We have recently found ourselves on “a road less traveled” and, since we can’t turn around, we have decided to find joy in the opportunity to go there... to become better for having trod this new path. We hope that none of you will have to take this route, and can instead experience the vistas through us as you follow this blog. Here we go... Remember to enjoy the journey!

Cruising

Hello faithful readers!  Our family is doing well.  Tanner is busily preparing for the competitive Indoor Drumline Season. Lehi took First Place in the State last year, so he's excited about being a part of something awesome.  The competitions start in a few weeks, so we'll see how they do.  He'll even get to take a trip to Denver as part of the season!:)  Matthew has finished the Cross-Country season and is conditioning for Track.  He has enjoyed many new workouts at home with his weights that he received at Christmas.  Haddie is still somehow managing to conquer her very difficult math class. We are proud of her for her efforts and are happy to see her many hours of hard homeworking pay off.  Austin just got braces and is worried he will never play his trumpet again!  He is looking forward to a fresh start at school with the beginning of a new semester.  Savannah and Normandy have just started a tumbling class at a local gym.  I have been so impressed with their abilities to do the stunts you see done in a gymnastics floor routine and am grateful that they are learning the proper technique.  They are loving it so far.  I have finally motivated myself to do some digital scrapbooking and am working on a family history of 2012... it's addicting.

Derek has had another wonderful report from his oncologist.  All blood work is still looking great.  They sent for some tests to be run on his tumor tissue from last year's surgery (crazy they can do that, eh?!) and found that he tested in such a way that he will have one more treatment option available to him besides chemotherapy, so that was good news... some kind of "Biotherapy."  The doctor was very positive about the ability Derek will have to try a variety of treatments because they've been able to get the cancer under control thus far.  They will do another scan on the 25th and continue to watch for the first indicators that it is starting to grow again and then we will jump in with a new treatment plan if needed.  We are still hoping to enjoy some time without any kind of treatment...the "Chemo Holiday" has been fabulous.  Well, that's where we are today!  Happy January!:)
